Sadly, my first trip to Chicago wasn't that great. I didn't really get to do much, but seeing the city was exciting. It's so full of energy. I loved that.

I took the train downtown to meet 3 girls from my ward. One of the girls missed her train, so 3 of us waited about 2 extra hours for her to arrive. While we were waiting I got to see some cool stuff.

When the 4th girl finally arrived, we decided to go get some lunch. We went to a pizza joint called Lou Malnati's. It was REALLY good and I finally tried TRUE Chicago style pizza.

It took 2 freaking hours to wait for our pizza though because our order got mixed up, so by the time we were done in the restaurant, it was time for all of us to walk back to our train stations to catch our trains.

While we were walking back to our stations, we came across some street performers. I just had to share this picture because this guy flipping landed on the girl in the blue shorts. She didn't get hurt or anything, so it's ok to think it was funny because... Well... It was!

Even though I didn't get to do much yesterday, it was good to finally get to the place I've been dying to see. I'm going again on Saturday, so hopefully I'll get to do more. I'm sure it'll be fun. It gets me out of the house so I enjoy it.

Sweltering With A Side Of Humidity

The weather today was awful. 101 degrees. The humidity didn't help either. It makes it feel 10x hotter than it actually is. I hate the constant sticky/sweaty feeling humidity brings, but point of all said, it was a "keep cool" kind of day.

Since being outside wasn't really an option, today the kids and I started out with making forts. That tested my creative limits. The kids approved though, so I guess I did alright. Then, we had PB&J sandwiches and apples for lunch with a nice glass of cold milk to wash it all down. After playing in my cold bedroom for a couple of hours, the kids' nana invited us over to go run through the sprinklers. The kids even got me to run through them! It was so refreshing and really fun. We all enjoyed it.

Since none of us felt like a hot meal, we had BLT's and corn on the cob for dinner with some ice cream for dessert. It was a good ending to the hot day. I'm glad we all survived. I don't want to experience another day of this heat!

So Far, So Good.

I've been enjoying living the suburb life. They really do have the cutest little neighborhoods here, with some of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen. (not to mention the biggest)

I've been having a lot of fun with the kids too. We go to parks all the time. I'm not even kidding when I say there's one on every block. It's not hard work finding a new park we've never been to before. They're all really fun ones too. The kids and I love to be outside. When it's not too hot that is. Last week, it was 95 degrees almost everyday with some humidity added in, so it was miserable. But when we can go outside, we always do.

We love to go on picnics, "explore" for new parks, ride our bikes, run through the sprinklers, and tons of other fun summer activities. Today, we went on a nearly 2 hour bike ride! DQ and I were the only ones on bikes though. Ladybug and Marvel were lucky and got to be pulled... By me. Man, I'm tired! I told them I'm just going to take them on a bike ride everyday instead of going to the gym. They gave me quite the workout.

I've surprised myself with this live-in nanny stuff. Before when I was a nanny in Utah, I was live-out, and it's actually much different. Not living with the family, you miss out on a lot in a couple of hours, but with me living here, I'm literally part of the family and I know what's constantly going on. I'm like a 3rd parent in this house. Or as DQ likes to say, I'm the biggest sister.

I have to prepare all 3 meals for the kids, and let me just say, I'm a much better cook than I thought! I've been trying recipes I've never done before, and they've all actually turned out pretty good. The kids love to help cooking too. They're quite the little helpers in the kitchen.

I guess they point of this post was to say how much I'm enjoying my new life so far. I'm so glad I made the decision to move out here. It's seriously so much fun.

Oh, and tomorrow, I'm going to CHICAGO!!! I've been dying to see it and I can't wait!! I'll be sure to post pictures and stuff.

For the next year, I have 3 kids. I'm going to be spending most of my time with them, and seeing them everyday. I'm obviously going to have a lot of stories about them as well. Now, I did sign a confidentiality form though. I'm not going to share their actual names, or ever post a picture of their faces. Maybe an occasional back of the head photo, but nothing more.

I've come up with nicknames for the kids if I ever have a story about them that I need to share.

First, we have DQ. She's the oldest child. She's extremely dramatic. DQ = Drama Queen. I love it though. It always entertains me. Everything is the end of the world with her. Makes for great times. DQ is also VERY creative. Her imagination is as wild as they come! The stories she can come up with are crazy, and she goes on for quite a while adding to them.

Next is Ladybug. She's as mischievious as they come. Boy does she have an attitude! She's always trying to butt heads with me and get out of doing her chores. Getting her to pick up a toy is like pulling teeth! She's mostly super sweet though. Loves to help out in the kitchen and always wants to spend time with me. She's a cutie.

Last, but not least we have Marvel. He's the youngest and the only boy, but don't let that fool you. He is all BOY. He loves, loves, loves super heros. He knows more about super heros than any 40 year old comic book freak that lives with his mother. Marvel will not even touch anything girly. If it's a picture with flowers on it, no deal. If a girl toy touches him in the bathtub, no deal. Or if he's given a pink cup to drink out of, no freakin' deal! He's such a little stud. I love this little boy's stinkin' guts.

The kids are each unique in their own ways. I learn more and more about them each day. I already love them and I've only been here about a week. I'm excited for our adventures this coming year. I think we're all going to get along great!

Hellloooo, ChiCAHgo!

I'm finally in good old Naperville. My flights weren't too bad. I arrived safely so that's all that matters.

My family here is SO kind!! As I was coming down the escalator to the baggage claim area, I saw them all waiting there holding up a sign for me.

After I got my luggage, they took me out to dinner to get me some "Chicago style" pizza. Deep dish! It was pretty good, but don't tell.. I still like thin crust better!

After dinner, they brought me home. They live in the cutest neighborhood and have an adorable house! They gave me a tour of the house, and then finally showed me my room.

My door decorated with Bendaroo's
When you come down the stairs, and look to the right, this is the first thing you see. My fridge!
After the fridge and looking more to your right, you see the cute little living room area
Just a view standing in the "living room"
Even more to the right, and in the back of the room, you see my sleeping area
My closest is the storage space under the stairs
Looking at my chair next to the bed, you see a Foosball table and a Pool table!
Just past the Pool table you see more storage and another comfortable chair. This is also the first thing you would see if you came down the stairs and looked to your left.
A view of things from the Pool table area

I LOVE my room! They did so much more than I expected! The wall color is the same as my room in Utah, so it's more homey. I just feel so relaxed down here. It's a great little escape.

So after checking out my room, we say our goodnights. I start to unpack a little and all the sudden I see something flash in the corner of my eye...

A freaking MOUSE!

I went and got the cat.

Meet Oreo

But of course the mouse didn't come around while Oreo was in the room with me. As adorable as the little mouse is, (whom I've named Chester) I really don't want to be his roommate. Traps were set up so he's going to be.... Moving out soon. Poor Chester.

All in all, my first 24 hours here have been great. Illinois is flat, but extremely green. It's beautiful! Oh, and I've already got a library card and went on a wonderful river walk! Not to mention I'm completely unpacked.

I definitely feel at home already. I think I'm going to do just fine here. I know I'm going to be homesick very shortly, but for now, I'm still too excited to realize it.

Chicagoland is magical. I know I'm going to have many a good time here.

So long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye

So here I am. Last day in Utah. Where did the time go?? I've had waaayyy too much fun saying a temporary goodbye to my Utah life. I also couldn't have asked for a better last day. I got to celebrate my beautiful cousin Paige's wedding. I loved seeing her so happy. She looked stunning. It's also great seeing everyone else happy as well! So congratulations, Paige and Nate!

I guess here it is. My new adventure in life. I'm going to make the most of it and have the best time ever. Chicago, ready or not, here I come!
